A family story, combining passion and a taste for a job well done
For more than 50 years, Jacques Remy & Fils has been writing its history with rigor, commitment, and family pride. This story began in the markets of Charleroi, has spanned generations, and is now set in a modern facility in Jumet. Every step, every face, every product reflects the same desire: to consistently deliver the best fruits and vegetables with the highest standards.
At the beginning, a market and an encounter
It all began in the 1950s, when Clément Van Biesen, a farmer, started selling his vegetables at the Charleroi market.
In 1962, he moved to the Vesperal market in Marcinelle, where he met Robert Remy, a buyer for a supermarket chain. It was also there that two stories crossed paths: those of Jacques Remy and Godelieve Van Biesen, their respective children, who would eventually marry.
Birth of the family business
In 1974, Jacques and Godelieve took over the family business and created the “Jacques Remy” brand, which they developed at the evening market.
In 1979, they took over the business assets of the Vassart company to increase their storage capacity, then diversified their offering with the sale of fruit.
A generational Transition
In 1993, their eldest son, Patrick Remy, joined the company to lend a hand.
Three years later, the company officially became “SA Jacques Remy & Fils” and acquired a new logistics site. David Remy joined the team in 1998 to develop fruit sales, followed by Nicolas Remy in 2003, who took charge of vegetable sales alongside his mother.
Innovation, continuity…
Creation of La Primabelle: La Primabelle was born out of Jacques Remy & Fils’ desire to highlight the quality of its products. In 2018, with 60 years of experience behind it, the company decided to create its own premium brand, working only with the best suppliers to ensure a high-quality product.
An optimal selection of seasonal products, reliable and high-quality suppliers, products that are always fresh—that’s what La Primabelle guarantees.
… and tribute
In June 2013, Jacques Remy passed away, leaving behind a legacy of passion, high standards, and a company firmly rooted in its time. His teachings, vision, and rigor still inform every decision and every daily action.
2024 : Inauguration of the Jumet site
Fifty years after its first contracts, the company continues to grow with its move to a new site in Jumet. More modern, more spacious, and more sustainable, this site symbolizes a transition: that of a family business that has become a key European player without ever losing its soul.
